With the Cleulow flock we are committed to preserving the quality of the Shetland breed and along with other members of the Shetland Sheep Society we do all we can to promote this versatile breed of sheep.
"Where's the food bucket"? This is our 2003 ram Formakin Quartz. A prizewinner in his own right, he produced some exceptional lambs for us.
Cleulow Rory and one of his prizes at the 2004 National Traditional Breeds Show and Sale at Melton Mowbray. He won Best Ram, Best Black Sheep and Wool on the Hoof Champion.
Cleulow Ross at 2005 Shetland Sheep Society National Show and Sale at Frome. He won senior Wool on Hoof and Reserve Champion Wool on Hoof.
We only showed once in 2006 but had great success when at Eccleshall - we won Best Ram, Best Ram Lamb, Best Ewe Lamb, Best Pen of Sheep and had Reserve Breed Champion with ewe lamb Cleulow Melissa.
At 2007 Cheshire Show we won three of the five classes - Best and Reserve Shetland, Best Primitive Sheep and the ultimate prize - Supreme Show Champion with our Shearling ram Cleulow Fairfax
In 2008 we again showed at Cheshire and won three classes. Best was Cleulow Hazel who won best Shetland ewe, Best Primitive Ewe and Reserve Primitive Champion. This meant we retained the Romeo Trophy which we won last year.
In 2008 the UK Shetland Sheep Society held its National Show and Sale at York. We entered three sheep. We managed Best and Reserve Shetland with Bigwig and Hazel.We also won - Best and Reserve "Wool on the Hoof" with Bigwig and Hazel, Best Overall Ram with Bigwig and Best Ewe with Hazel and Best Black Sheep with Bigwig. Next day the three sheep all sold well with Bigwig topping the sale at 345 guineas.
In 2009 we were again succesful at Cheshire County Show. We entered sheep in four of the five Shetland classes and amazingly won two firsts, a second and a third. Cleulow Darcy (moorit) won best ram, and Cleulow Henrietta (black)won best ewe. Henrietta then went on to win the Primitive Sheep Championship and from there to become Reserve Supreme Champion in the Interbreed Finals.
At the Shetland Sheep Society National Show and Sale 2009 at Melton Mowbray we entered five sheep in various classes. This is Cleulow Eliza who won the shield for Best Black Fleece and was also third placed ewe in a large class. The judge was from the Shetland Islands so the award was doubly noteworthy
At the same show and sale our moorit ram Cleulow Darcy won senior Wool on the Hoof and Reserve Wool Champion as well as Third placed ram. In total we were awarded two Firsts, a Second and three Third prizes. All five sheep sold well and found good new homes.
